Photorejuvenation is based on the use of intense pulsed light or laser to stimulate collagen production, to lighten skin tone, and trigger skin rejuvenation. It diminishes the signs of aging, and restores subtlety, smoothness and elasticity to the skin. This aesthetic medical treatment is performed by Dr Benjamin Cozanet in Paris, where he can correct fine lines, pigmented spots and improve skin texture and density with no social downtime and zero pain.
Skin aging is most visible on the face, neck, decolletage and the back of the hands. It starts between 30-40 and gets worse through excessive sun exposure, cigarette smoking, alcohol and stress….
Skin texture is modified progressively: the rough aspect, dilated pores, fine lines and wrinkles, brown spots ("senile lentigo") and red patches. Skin loses its firmness, elasticity, density, all signs of skin laxity.
Laser photorejuvenation results in an absolute improvement in skin tone and texture on the face and decolletage. The effect is produced by the synthesis of new collagen, dictating quality of tissue regeneration, structural integrity of tissue, and remodeling.
Who is a good candidate for laser photorejuvenation?
Laser photorejuvenation is recommended to patients who want to reverse the aging process, with sun damaged skin, skin tissue sagging, with fine lines or pigmentary imperfections (particularly brown spots).
By stimulating collagen production, the laser improves skin texture, reducing signs of aging and restoring glow and firmness.
Laser photorejuvenation corrects:
• Fine lines on face and around eyes and mouth
• Post pregnancy stretch marks, or after a sudden weight gain
Dr Benjamin Cozanet may equally propose laser photorejuvenation to younger patients looking to prevent skin aging in the first place, referred to as “prejuvenation”.
Types of Laser Photorejuvenation Treatments
Laser skin aging treatments reduce the skin’s signs of aging through a monochromatic light beam which targets water and melanin in the medium to deep skin layers. The light beam’s heat triggers collagen production and natural and progressive skin regeneration.
Dr Benjamin Cozanet, an aesthetic medical and laser expert in Paris, employs a variety of laser photorejuvenation therapies to suit your needs.
Laser Affirm Multiplex TM by Cynosure is a fractional laser that has an intradermal reach, typically targeting the dermis at depths of about 2 to 3 millimeters. Using the Multiplex TM technology, the Affirm laser uses two different wavelengths which can target a wider range of skin layers. It acts on the epidermis, on the dermo-epidermal junction and the mid-dermis.
The Picosure (Cynosure®) laser is the 1st in the world to have an ultra-short pulse duration, in picoseconds, allowing for the treatment of epidermal and dermal pigmented lesions (solar lentigines, nevus of Ota) and photorejuvenation. Its ultra-short, pulsed light maximizes its efficiency, with 50% fewer sessions required and a quicker scar healing process.
The RevLite™ SI laser by Cynosure, the newest state-of-the-art laser: Q-Switched Nd:Yag. Its multiple wavelength feature provides greater effectiveness, comfort, power and speed.
The PTP laser by RevLite SI combines high-peak power and ultra-short pulse duration. It allows for a unique distribution of maximum energy and the ability to use larger spot sizes. This pulse setting feature provides dual action in the bio stimulation of collagen, namely, a photoacoustic effect and a subtle thermal effect. Clinical studies confirm that the PTP mode provides more effectiveness and enhanced patient comfort than other skin photorejuvenation treatments.
Laser Photorejuvenation: Detailed Procedure Information
Depending on the skin profile and the targeted zone, 5-6 sessions are required to obtain the desired results. The sessions are generally spaced 3-4 weeks apart. During the first appointment, the Doctor performs a skin diagnosis and will tell you how many sessions he recommends for your profile.
This procedure is not recommended for tanned or mat skinned people (Type 5 and 6) or who suffer from a collagen disorder (scleroderma). Treatment following the use of photosensitizing medication is also contraindicated.
Affirm, Picosure or Revlite SI laser sessions last about 20-30 minutes (the duration depends on the surface area to treat.)
The procedure is minimally painful and is generally performed without any anesthesia. During the session, the laser light pulses produce tingling and heating sensations. The session ends with the application of a soothing, moisturizing, repairing cream which you must continue to apply for the next few days.
The laser photorejuvenation treatment doesn’t operate on the skin’s outer layer, so no social downtime is required after the therapy. In fact, it does not cause any 'scabs' or unattractive skin lesions.
Although there is no formal social downtime, some red patches can show up after the session. They will disappear in the 24-48 hours following the session. They are easy to conceal. You may feel like you have had a sunburn for about 1-2 days.
In the 10 days following the procedure, a slight exfoliation of the epidermis may occur (loss of small flakes from the superficial layer of the skin).
In the case of sun exposure in the 3 months following the treatment, applying sunscreen is a MUST.
Benefits of a Combo Treatment
In the case of severe photoaging, a variety of EneOMey(dermatological laboratory) peels are employed by Dr Benjamin Cozanet.
For deeper wrinkles or an overall facial aging preventative treatment, you can combine laser photorejuvenation with a more targeted therapy like hyaluronic acid injections or Skinboosters injections or Calcium hydroxyapatite (Radiesse®) / HarmonyCa® / Sculptra® for an added tissue induction effect.
For an overall treatment of sagging skin on the facial oval, upper eyelids, neck or decolletage (Ultherapy Prime®) micro focused ultrasounds are an ideal alternative to more invasive cosmetic surgeries. Ultherapy Prime® has been cleared and certified by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) and has been proven to be safe and effective for many years now.
